antenna mast replacement glitch '84 300D

Replaced the antenna mast on my '84 300D as the cable on the old mast broke. The old mast cable came out in one piece fine. The new replacement mast goes in with no problems, however when it gets to the end either going up or down the motor keeps running for a few seconds and I can hear the teeth on the mast cable ratcheting as the motor keeps running. I compared the new replacement mast to the old and they are the same. Is there some adjustment to tell the motor when to stop when the mast is extended fully or retracted fully so it doesn't keep running for those few seconds and grinding the teeth on the cable??
