CD Changer Installation – 2002 E320 Sedan

I just purchased a 2002 E320 sedan. It needs a CD changer... so I ordered an MC3010 (part number A 203 820 9089) fiber optic unit. Can anyone tell me the procedure for installing the changer? I assume it gets mounted in the trunk. Exactly where would I find the wiring/cables. Anything I should know regarding the integration of the changer with the head unit?

I also need the mounting bracket for this... the dealer wants about $120 for it... seems high to mke... any suggestions on where to find one cheaper?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If it's anything like the 99-00 W202's, I think all that is involved is pulling out the trunk liner on the right side, looking for the power and fiber optic wiring (should be attached together on the right side of the trunk), installing the bracket in the pre-drilled holes, and plugging everything in. May want to re-install the trunk liner before you actually install the changer unit, depending on the layout of the unit.

You MAY need to have the radio programmed to recognize the changer, but I would install the hardware and see if it starts up first.

PS If you don't have the changer already, you may want to wait until it arrives, it may come with the bracket.

Also, the removal of the trunk liner may be a non-trivial task, they are usually a bear to get out. Check for plastic rivets holding them secure, usually they are removed by prying out the center plug, then removing the surrounding rivet.

PPS According to this website the fiber optic connection for a W210 is on the LEFT side, not the right.

Installing MC 1030 CD Changer in 2002 E320 Sedan

Anthony,

Thanks fo your help. I did receive the changer and it works fine after hooking up the cables. I'm still not clear on where the pre-drilled mounting holes are for mounting the unit. Are they in metal on the upper deck of the trunk?

I don't know how exactly it's mounted in the W210, but in the W202 it sits vertically in a well on the side of the trunk. In that case, there are two pre-drilled holes in the trunk floor next to the well, and you use sheet metal screws that come with the bracket to attach it to the frame via those holes.

My W210 CD changer is mounted vertically in the trunk well on the left side.

On my W210 1998 E430, the CD changer is mounted inside the driver's side wheel well area inside the trunk. It is attached to the inner side of the well area (the area closest to the trunk, as opposed to the quarter panel side). As mentioned, it is mounted vertically.

Good luck!
