That is a cool looking radio. My 300D has the original amfm becker europa and it still works. I can't bring myself to change it because I love those pinstripes. I'd like to put one of those multiple band radios in my 240D except the previous owner had installed some type of audiophile system that is probably worth more than the car itself and my kids really dig the sound.

I always try and pull factory Mercedes Radios.. I only managed to get the faceplate from a Europa (from a w114).. sadly the rest of it was thrashed from some idiot trying to remove it...

Last month at the Virginia Beach Pick'n Pull, I paid $9 for a Europa LMKU cassette I found laying on the front seat of a Euro W126 280SE. Grabbed it just in time as the car was gone the next day. Radio works fine, but cassette needs a belt. Interestingly, while gaining the shortwave/longwave bands, the LMKU Europa cassette lacks the auto-reverse feature found on the cassette transports of the US AM-FM Europas. Happy Motoring, Mark |

There's a German eBay seller (might be the same guy) that gets $300 - $400 for the signal-seeking tube Becker Mexicos. Frequently, the Beckers are advertised as being for a 300SL, the same way that vintage Blaupunkts are often sold as 'Porsche radios'.
In 1975, my Dad bought a project 1960 Fintail 220SE for $150. When he went to pick up the car, someone approached him and offered him $350 for the Mexico radio! I do have a working, AM-only, version of the signal-seeking tube Mexico - a Becker Brescia. Happy Motoring, Mark |
