1983 300sc speakers
I am trying to upgrade my stereo in this car. But I am very new to installing radio's (only changing the deck before)
Crutchfield says that there are no speakers for the front, and not much of a selection for the back. I do not want to buy a radio if I can not get a better then 25 year old speaker. What options do I have? I do not want to mess up the look of the inside of the car by mounting speakers in the doors etc. unless I have to. If you have added them there, got any photo's of how it looks? Thanks Sorry, 300SD 1983

I have found that Crutchfields, while they can be helpful, are not the definitive answer on speaker compatability. Just take one out and compare it to what's available locally. I'm sure you'll find something that sounds better and fits or can be fitted without too much modification.

I have been a long time fan of Pioneer car audio and they do a range of 'drop-in' replacement speakers that fit several ranges of cars' standard speakers. I did this on my 300E's rear speakers. Not sure what the front ones are but they sound better the standards so guess they have been upgraded by a previous owner.
I am fairly sure they were these ones: http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/25/132/201/TS-H107/index.html Look under 'car application' to see what I mean about generic car fitting. They cost me about £50 UK and as per the image come shipped with fitting plates (in case they're needed). If these are not suitable for your wagon I'd be certain Pioneer have another type that would fit: http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/25/132/201/overview.html?__QType_UNI_CF_SW=1 I recently helped a mate replace all his standard speakers on his Vauxhall Astra using speakers from this range. And no, I don't have shares in Pioneer! Regards, Glyn B. |

I don't know for certain that they will fit in the front locations, but the rear will fit a set of Infinity Kappa 4"x6" plate speakers.
I test fit a set to see what would fit, down at the local Car Toys store.
