Becker 754 radio issues
I had the radio from my 560SL out to replace the internal battery which I wasn't able to do at this time. So I reinstalled my radio and it worked just fine. The car's battery was disconnected all the while BTW. Then I disconnected the car battery again to fix my SRS problem. When I reattached the car battery cable, the radio no longer worked. I thought that maybe I didn't firmly attach one of the connections, but I checked them and they are all fine. When I say the radio doesn't work, what I do get is power to the radio. All of the presets work and all of the functions seem to work. It's just that I am only getting a static hum and no sound. Any ideas?

Len,
The 754 does NOT have a security code. However, it will shut itself down with four dashes displayed on the face. If this happens, Becker has to reset it. If your 560SL is a 1988 model year, it calls for a 780 model (maybe 754 models were used in very early 1988 models?). I think the 780 has higher wattage and a code input should it require resetting (in lieu of having to send to radio to Becker).

JP - yeah, mine is a 754 which should have ended with the '87 models. However, when I removed it and saw that it was a 754, it had a sticker on it saying that it was a replacement radio. Apparently this one had been changed at some point in it's life. It has no security code as you say and my dealer will reset it for me for no charge. However, it is only supposed to go into the safe mode if the radio is removed while the alarm is on. I have in the past just disconnected the battery and removed the radio and upon reinstall, it would fire right up. Also, it doesn't appear to be in what I would think the safe mode would be. I get all the functions except sound. The numbers show up for the stations, etc. I would expect the dashes on the face as you say if it were in the safe mode. And it did work when I first put it back in. That's what makes this all the more strange.
