Thumbs down S-550 Cd Player

My 07 S550 CD player does not list any information about the Artist or song when it is playing. Yet, my MP3 player does. I took my car to the dealer to correct the problem and I was told that it was working properly. I find it hard to believe that the CD player in a $104,000 Car cannot display the CD title, Artist, or song. Please advise. Thanks.

Ummm. audio CDs aren't encoded with artist/title information. That's normally retrieved off the internet from the cddb or other such service. MP3 players can have artist/title/etc info encoded in the file.

Some audio CDs are encoded with artist/song title information from factory. Although, not all commercial CD players have the capability of reading such information. Usually players capable of such a thing will display a "CD-text" logo somewhere.

It would be interesting to see if the new W221 audio system is capable of reading such info. If it is not able, it would be a GREAT omission.

Usually, CDs commercially produced in Europe and Asia are more prone to have CD-text information on them than American market discs.

So before we start blaming the player, it would be wise to determine if any information is actually encoded on the disc. jleverett, would you care to elaborate on exactly which CD you are using?

One is a 2007 CD of Aretha Franklin called Jewels in the crown, released in late 2007. What should i look for on the CD?

Thanks,

Well, it is difficult to say. Again, all goes down to compatibility. CDs on the early 80s and 90s had the "CD-text" logo on their back cover to state that song/artist info and sometimes even lyrics where available. But that custon stopped on the late 90s, now is just a matter of luck.

Many CDs have text info that can be easily read by a computer, but don't be fooled by that, that info is not necessarely compatible with a regular CD player.

My advise would be to first locate a CD-text compatible CD player and then begin to try CDs from your collection until info appears on the screen. Then try that CD on your S 500 player.

This is good advice. Perhaps you should go to your dealer and compare the function of your car with another S-Class. This is the best way to determine if there's actually a problem, or not.

Many thanks to everyone. I took a new CD and copied it using Roxio. My CD player was able to read the song title, but not the CD title or the Artist.

I will now try ITune to see if I can get the artist and the CD title.

It is amazing the Mercedes Benz could not build and CD player that recognizes this information. My 03 S430 that I sold last year could. I intend to press them for answers.

Thanks,

J D

ITunes

<<mport the cd into itunes and hen burn a new cd thi way it will be encrypted with the names of the songs and artist,>>

No, it will not.

My '08 C300's Multimedia system will display the information from a purchased CD, but any CD I have created in ITunes from singly purchased selections or from imported CDs will not show anything.

I will try MP3 this weekend to see if that works. I sent a message to MBUSA pertaining to the problem.

Thanks,

J D
