Angry 300SDL Speakers

The stock speakers in my 87 300SDL have went from bad to worse. Now the left rear is totally out and the others sound tinny at best.

I've searched the internet and a few other sources (Crutchfield, Audiophiles, etc) and they do not show a direct fit replacement for this car. Crutchfield had a few sets that would work, but would require some modification.

Does anyone know of some decent quality speakers that would be a direct replacment? I would really like to have better bass response, so would replacing the rears with 6x9's or 4x10's be feasible?

Hmmmmmm...

As far a direct replacements go, I've never seen any. Speaker installation on an MB can require quite a bit of creativity, and work.

The setup in my '88 420SEL is an Infinity Kappa component set and a Kenwood eXcelon CD player. The tweeters are in the dash speaker locations and reflect off the windshield. It makes them sound a little harsh, but it's the best setup I could think of for a stealth installation (as opposed to mounting the tweeters directly on the dash). The 5 1/4 inch woofers are in the front doors, and there are no rear speakers as of yet, due to lack of funds.

My signature says I have two Q Power subs (not the greatest subs, but my brother gave them to me for free), but they're actually not hooked up yet, though they will be very soon.

As far a speakers go, I'd definatly recommend a component set because of the higher power handling, and greater detail. I'd consider one with 6 1/2 woofers, but installing them in your front doors will require, like i said, a little creativity.

Hope this helps.
