Bluetooth phone issues

I have an Alpine head unit with a bluetooth adapter in my E500. My phone runs through it. The problem, though, is that the microphone, which is clipped to the headliner near the rear view mirror, picks up sound from the dash speakers. As a result, anybody I talk to while moving hears himself echo through the microphone unless I have the volume down so low that I have trouble hearing them. Any suggestions? I have considered moving the mic, but there doesn't seem to be a logical alternative unless I want to drill holes. Is there a way to shield the mic or are there mics which can be "aimed"?

I have one in my Lincoln. It's mounted on the steering column. How would that work for you? I don't use mine, so I can't comment on how well it works. I use a Bluetooth ear piece.

That sounds like a promising idea. It's below the dash speakers, so they shouldn't get picked up. Did you ever use yours?

No, the car didn't have the phone in it when I bought it. I've always used portable cell phones, so I never had occassion to try it. However, it was installed that way from the factory, so I would assume that it worked pretty well. It's built in to the car, not an aftermarket install.

On the Pioneer Headunit I have in my TE, there is an option in the Bluetooth Menu to do the echo cancellation....

My blackberry has it also.

I've selected the echo cancellation on both blackberry and head unit, but that hasn't done the job. I'm going to see if I can figure out a way to route it to the steering wheel column or dash without having to take off the dash. Maybe there is a bluetooth microphone available.

Blue Tooth

I have 2004 C320 Sport Sedan Mercedez Benz. I would like to link my Steering control phone to any after market Blue tooth. Or any factory bule tooth that can be installed. Any body out there know what to do. Here in California effective July you can no longer use cell while driving.
