hooking up cd disc changer 99' e300td
I just bought a 99' E300TD, and I want to hook up a disc changer. The factory radio has a cd button and the original dealer window sticker says that the stereo is "CD ready." I have been told that there should be a hookup in the trunk, but I can't find this wire, unless its under the spare tire. I am assuming that the radio is an alpine because the seriel number is "AL2299W0930146." Does anyone know if there should be a wire in the trunk and where would it be. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The mounting area for the six disc changer, in the sedans, was in the trunk, behind the rear wheel well, on the passenger side.
Rather than using the changer, have you given any thought to a more modern setup? A single disc headunit that can read MP3 files will hold more hours of music than the six disc changer will and nearly all modern units have AUX In or iPod compatibility for even more flexibility. |

The "single DIN" space used by Mercedes is a universal standard for in-dash headunits.
Removal typically requires the use of $5 "keys" that allows the headunit to be pulled out of the screwed in base. Wiring harness adapter plugs are available if you don't wish to fashion your own. Put your car's make and year info into www.crutchfield.com search tool to see what's available. |

thank you. I was wondering if the head unit can be removed with the keys without damaging the wood panel. It looks like a pretty close fit, and I would hate to gouge the wood, or crack the finish during the removal.
