puzzling speaker wiring... help.. '83 300sd

83 300SD
Previous owner had a 4 channel sony cd player hooked up to the fader working fine although the volume was low. I want to hook the speakers direct to the sony. I cut the wires and have the 4 pairs that go to the speakers. I used an AA battery to quickly find both front speakers and hooked them up in a few minutes. Then I went to test the rear speakers and can't get a sound from them. I climbed into the trunk to verify the same color wires I was trying to hook up. They were the same. There are 4 other wires that are the same color as the rear speaker wires that went to the fader that have continuity with the wired that should be running to the rear speakers.
I have tried hooking them together, etc.. everything I can think of and I still can't get anything.
Has anyone ran into this problem before? The rear speakers are green striped and red striped with their own negative black wires.
This has really got me stumped.

Exclamation

So you're bypassing the fader?

Are you sure all channels in the headunit work?

Yes. I bypassed the fader. All channels were working before I cut the wires. I'm using a AA battery to test the wires and found the front speakers in seconds. But I can't get anything on the rear speakers. The wires I'm testing up front is the same color as the ones going to the rear speakers. I can't understand why they were working before and now they don't. ???
I might just run new wires tomorrow. How do you pull the rear seat?
This is off subject but where is the cheapest place to buy a valve cover gasket?

I ended up running new wires to the rear speakers, just not worth the time trying to figure it out. But it is strange that I had all 8 speaker wires and could only get the front ones to work. ??

The old radio had only a 2 channel output, which was split in the fader.

Rewiring is the best move.
