What does it take to install a '93 Becker radio in an '87 TD?

I am currently making my 300TD wagon not only reliable, but comfortable and nicer looking as well. I happened accross a 93 W124 wagon that has perfect interior and carpeting (badly needed by me), great doors and panels and a third row seat... the sad part is that even though the car was in an accident and could easily and cheaply be repaired, it now has a CD title (certified for destruction) in other words, it cannot be driven on US roads again. As luck would have it, I bought the car cheap and while swapping parts into my car, I figured I could just put in the newer Grand Prix Becker unit... but the wiring is different. Anybody have any ideas regarding this modification? Also, the radio has on its back what I have come to know as a din plug... what is that for? is it for an outboard amp? thanks for the help.

I'm not sure it will work.

1993 was an odd year for the audio system.

It runs off of 2 ohms of resistance, instead of 4 ohms.

It also uses an amp which is located in the trunk.

Doesn't the 87 also run off 2 ohms? It was my understanding that the original wiring scheme had each side wired in parallel via the fader switch. I have yet to figure out the impedance of each speaker, but I think it's 4 ohms, hence 2 in parallel.

I ran across a post once where someone had an adapter harness that allowed the later Becker (with the DIN plug) to be easily hooked onto the factory wiring harness. Or maybe you could just re-wire a few things to make it easier ... could probably throw your own amp in the mix if you want, or take the amp out of your 93 and use that.

As soon as my dad gave me the car (about five years ago), the first thing I did was take it to Tweeter and have them pop in an Alpine HU. Simplified a lot. I replaced that HU myself last week with a new one (don't ask what happened to the first one ...) and it was easy since I didn't have to deal with the factory wiring ... yikes.

I'm not an expert, but I don't believe it does.

My understanding is that the 2 ohms deal was 1993 only, maybe possibly 1992 as well.
