'92 w140 Bose windshield tweeter removal
I've searched for info about the proper removal of the tweeter located behind the rearview mirror on the windshield and haven't had any luck on finding info to help.
I'm wanting to remove it because it just blew and is making that sound that busted speakers make. To say the least I'd like to disconnect it until I can replace it with a new one. If someone can help me out to the proper way to remove it, I'd be grateful. I've tried a little prying action but, of course, I've already snapped a small peace off the plastic over the rearview mirror, so I'm reluctant to continue without a little advice. I'd also like to know the size of the tweeter (so maybe I can order one before I have the time to remove the current one). Thanks, bulletproofair

I have a feeling it is not the speaker, I tore my door apart thinking bad speaker, it turned out to be a bad "Bose amp". The system is a seven channel amp, two speakers each side rear deck, one speaker each side rear doors, two speakers each side front doors, and one tweeter behind the mirror.

thanks for the link, but it doesn't show anything about how to remove the tweeter (or speakers), nor the size.
I'm almost positive the problem is the tweeter. I've searched all over the internet and can't find anything about the proper removal of the tweeter. I've already cracked a plastic piece surrounding the tweeter and I know it will break if I keep it up. Do I need to remove the rearview mirror first? or at all? It's just getting kind of frustrating, because the tweeter sounds horrible and I have to keep the volume low. Is it 3/4" or 1"? Somebody has to have replaced this tweeter at one point. I don't really want to debate what the problem is, I just want info about the tweeter size and removal. Thanks, Bulletproofair

I managed to disconnect my tweeter (and managed to crack a few more pieces of plastic because it seems nobody has ever documented the removal process) and it measured 2" across the mounting plate. The tweeter itself seemed to be about 1 3/4".
As I thought the tweeter is the problem. Now that I've disconnected it I can't seem to find anybody that sells a 2" tweeter! At least one that would fit where the original is. So I'm kind of stumped. I'm sure I'll figure something out sooner or later but as of now...no. If anybody has any input or has replaced this tweeter with an aftermarket one, I'd appreciate some info about the brand of speaker purchased or if it's even possible to buy a 1 3/4" and mount it inside of the original mounting plate. I'm not new to audio so I've got a few tricks up my sleeves but I'd like to keep the car as clean and original looking as possible. If anybody wants to know the process of removing the tweeter just send me a pm.
