Previous owner had mounted a very old very sad aftermarket tapedeck into the car. Decided to put in a newer JVC I had laying around. Tried to clean things up a but as I went. PO just wrapped the wires together and duct taped them together. There were only two speaker wires and two speaker grounds so I just connected the wires from the rear speakers of the head unit to the existing speaker wires and all four speakers play. Trouble is as I turn up the volume so I can here sound the face of the head unit starts to flash ans fade with the music and if I turn it up more the stereo cuts out like I am getting a brown out. Is the original wiring not enough power for the unit or am I missing something? I checked the wires before I hooked it up to be sure I was getting power and I had 12.6V. Thank you in advanced for the assistance.

Thumbs up

Rewire the entire car. Seriously. Use the switched, constant, ground, and dimmer... then run new speaker wires to new speakers. You'll be pleased then.

You know mine does that to, I thought it was a ground problem but just have not had the time to solve the problem.
