Lights On = Radio Off (84 300SD)

Anybody seen this one?

After putting my console back together, I returned the Becker to its location in the dash. Since I've been working on these issues into the evening, I noticed that the radio wasn't displaying the time, and was in fact dark. Tried turning it on and nothing. This morning, however, the radio worked! And tonight it happened again. The light went on (literally) when I realized that as I turned on and off the lights that the power to the radio goes off and on.

BTW, the radio receives AM fine, but the FM stations don't come in at all - it's a sea of static. Is this a common issue with the original radios?

Update...

Power isn't completely removed from the radio, it retains the time and station memories.

Is there a "feature" where the radio display dims when the lights are turned on? At this point, I'm still trying to figure if it's a problem with the radio or the wiring.

I've been to Becker's website and emailed them. Will update again based on their response
