Last night I noticed a slight buzzing, so I probably need to reinstall one or more speakers with some dampener between the mounting flange and the mounting surface.

OT - still a bit relevant.... Have any of you guys tried to make fiberglass pods for the front? I am running components, and currently the tweeter just sits on top of the grille, but vibrates like hell.

I guess it was technically "vibration." I think it was possibly something connected to the speaker vibrating against something metal in the car. I did put those foam cups behind the speakers to improve the sound quality and efficiency of the rear speakers.

Chad made some raised grills for his where the tweeters stuck up above the grills. They looked pretty nice.

I saw those, but i dont think it would work so well to mount a tweeter.

What if you mounted the tweeters on the dash and the mid range speakers in the kick panels or the doors? Would that work better?

I agree. Try the fiberglass route.

If it were me, I'd get a second set of speaker grills to use for the construction. Cut out the centers and make a mount ring for the tweeter. Then attach it to the cut grill with wood risers screwed in. Then wrap it all with sweatshirt material and resin coat it. Sand it smooth and fill any imperfections with glazing compound and paint it to match the interior.
