Becker Replacement??

The orig Becker on my 84D is making annoying crackle sounds. I'd like to replace it with a cd/radio unit. Crutchfield is a good source for direct replacements but i thought I'd just get some input from the forum for recommendations. Not looking for anything too fancy. I was considering this:

Back in 2005 I got an Eclipse CD3413 model unit, because it has two knobs which I liked, has CD-R playing capability (burn mp3's as data) and has a more orderly set of buttons than others. Here it is in my car:

In reference to radio's --- take a look at this one in my 83 300D...how many of us have seen a VDO radio? I think it flows nicely with the VDO 'theme' of these classic cars...

I've got a couple becker radios out of our SD's (drop in replacement for you) if you want to buy one from me. They both work fine, but I pulled them out and put in a couple kenwood/sirius head units.

Otherwise I'd recommend Kenwood....they seem to make good stuff.

I like a volume knob and a tuning knob!!!!
I fight through the stupid volume thing on my Beckers, well, because they are Beckers!! Were I to buy one, 2 knobs would be mandatory. And really, isn't that true in many aspects of life.......

Anybody know of any Bose speakers that will fit an 81 300D? These speakers in the dash are pretty small.

I think just about any 4" will fit if you're willing to bring them up from the bottom. I have Boston Acoustics in the front and dropped them in from the top. I had to trim one of the four "tabs" for the grille to fit right.

Try the Pioneer at a store before buying. Some have have the volume knob double as a joystick. Clumsy fingers can skip to the next song when intending to turn up the volume. There's some discussion in Crutchfield's user reviews of each product.

Iam a two knobber also. one turns it on, the other moves the needle to the station I want. Don`t have to remember some number for the station.

these new radios have so many do dads, buttons, and graphics I about run off the road trying to get my eyes focused onthe darn thing.

now for some soothing music and a couple soft knobs

Head units look good when they're black like the original beckers. LOVE the VDO, by the way. Where can you buy those? (not a single ebay listing)

The silver Sony head unit in Norm bothers me.

Pawsd, what kind of kenwood dya put in? I wouldn't mind swapping Beckers but I think I'll take this opportnity to change out (and spend money) with a cd receiver.... although, I mostly listen to npr anyway... but I like to play gunther cd's once in a while...
