No radio. What happened?

You all are always so helpful when it comes to figuring out what is going on with my 240D. I really appreciate it, and I've got another one:

I was working next to my car the other day and had the engine off and the radio turned up fairly loud (an Alpine CD player with an iPod dock). It played for quite a while, and then there was what sounded like a small pop (I might be making that part up), and the radio went dead. I looked in the fuse box, and one of the fuses had blown, and another one was very close to blowing. I replaced them both, but still no radio. I do know that one of the fuses that I replaced did in fact go to the radio and the glovebox light, what incidentally, doesn't work either. What could be causing both the radio and the glovebox light not to work if it's not the fuse? Does anybody have any ideas?

As always, thanks for the help!

The radio may have an internal fuse. Check the manual or pull the radio and look.

I was thinking the same thing, but that wouldn't necessarily explain why the glove box light worked before, but doesn't now. According to the fuse box diagram, both are on the same fuse.

On most new radios they have a fuse where the plug, plugs into the radio it self. It should be a mini fuse and like 15 amps, I think...

Your classic Benz may not have liked your taste in loud music.

Have you checked to see if the glove box bulb didn't burn out when something went awry in the radio?

I checked the fuse in the fuse box, and it is not blown. I checked the fuse on the back of the radio, and it is not blown. I also checked the light bulb in the glove box, and it is good. So, something must have happened that's interrupting power to the radio and glove box, but I have absolutely no idea what it could be.

Try checking the contanutity (Spelling???) of the wire from the fuse to the radio. You may have blown the wire it self. Had that happen on my dad's old truck, was thinking that the wire was bad from the start and when the radio was hooked up, it just pushed it past it's limits. Just a thought...

or some idiot may have installed an inline fuse somewhere you can't see. that happened on mine... the fuse was right below the leaking rear window :O

Got it. So, in order to check the continuity on the wire from the fuse to the radio. . .well, what would be the best way to do this? I have a multimeter. . .Just not sure where to hook it up in this case.

You dont need to check continuity, just check for power first.. then if theres no power start looking up stream for the break

--although I guess checking for power is checking continuity..--
