Code
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Send me the serial number. I should be able to get the correct code for you.

Hi Cleeve, thank you for your offer. I think its very generous of you. Other forums will only give me the code provided I have put in 200 posts + some other condition. Anyway, I wish I had the serial no. to send you. Trouble is, I understand that the unit has to be removed to access the model and serial no.. No one here seems to know how to do it. Those who claim they can want to charge me $150 to take it out, and even then i can't be sure that they really know how. These guys might break it in the process and then thell you that its broken becos its too old and advise that it'll be cheaper if you replace it with a new unit. Even the Mercedes franchise workshop tell you to do that. The cheek of them. I have ordered to removal tool (thanks to Achterberg - see previous post) and am waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully its the right tool. Then I'll be sure to take you up on your offer.

Thanks Cleeve.

Hey Steve, thanks so much for all your input.

"Phillip - Yes, that is what I meant. Your radio has the cassette player, whereas the 4602 has a single CD player internal. Look at my web site and click on 4602.
http://web.mac.com/dakota/Becker/4602.html"

Oops! I misunderstood that. Ok, so the 4602 looks like the unit that I have, except that the 4602 comes with a built-in single CD player, whereas the one I have has a cassette player instead. Got it. Phew!!!! Solly, Englis no so good. Hehehehe.

I'll try both links you sent me and let you know what happens. As for Cleeve, I'm sure he'll be able to help. Trouble is, I don't have even have the model no.to send him, let alone the serial no.. So now waiting anxiously for the removal tool to arrive. Hope they fit.

Thanks again.
Phillip

Becker Grand Prix again

Hi Cleeve and Steve,

Hope you guys had a wonderful New Year.

Today, I received a plain white 3.5" by 6.5" envelope from the USA. Inside were the Becker removal tools I ordered about 2 weeks ago.

Eagerly, I went and tried to see if they fitted the model I have. I followed the enclosed photocopy of the instructions, inserted the keys (quite a tight fit) and guess what?

THEY WORKED!!!! Out came my stereo unit and attached are some photos I took. More questions..... but first, the serial number is BE2140S2201449. I think the model no. must be EC107.

Cleeve, hope you'll be able to get me the code. Thanks in advance.

New questions:

Pix 1
What is the number below the bar code "2140DX6S2201449". It's the same number as the serial number except without the "BE" at the front but with an extra "DX6" in between 2140 and S2201449.

Pix 2
There is also another number which is stuck on the back of the removable face plate that reads 214012256502350574. WHat number is this? Is this the VIN?

Pix 3
The rear of the unit. I have disconnected the aerial from the bottom left hand connector. Are there supposed to be other wire connected apart from those in the pix?

Pix 4
In this pix, you can see 5 loose connectors. 1 green connector, 1 yellow connector, 2 black connectors - 1 with white ring, 1 with red ring, and the 5th is a blue wire with a discoloured see through plastic insulation connector.

Should I be concerned with them? If so what are they for and are they supposed to be connected somewhere.

Thanks guys.

Cheers,
Phillip

Phillip, you have a Becker Model 2140 (that's the BE2140 part of the number). The serial number would be S2201449 (8 digits).

Cleeve should be able to help you with the CODE. If not, I found a web site in Austrailia that will get the code for you, for a fee of AU$45 (~US$31 or ~RM109 Malaysian Ringgit).

Not really sure about the extra wires. The blue one may be the speed sensor or the antenna motor, but I'm can't remember.

Hi Steve

Hi Steve,

Is there any other way to contact Cleeve besides thru this forum? His last post did say "send the serial no." to him and there is a link to a website. However, I'm not sure if he owns the company or he works there, so I'm not sure if I should write to him there. Thought since you've been in this forum a long time, you might know Cleeve better.

Thanks.

I don't know Cleeve personally. Click on his name on the message he wrote. That will let you send him a personal email, I think.

La Jolla Audio may be shut down for the holiday period possibly. I'm sure he will respond as soon as he gets a message.

Local Mercedes dealer should be able to get you the code. If you want to talk to Cleeve directly, just follow the link in his signature, and call La Jolla Audio. I've talked to him a couple times about Bose amp repair for my W140.

I started off with only knowing the make and range of the original radio/cassette player. Bought the removal tools from USA (I'm in Malaysia) which arrived on 2nd Jan 2009. Removed the unit, found out the Becker Grand Prix was a model 2140 with serial number BE2140S2201449, then today, after searching high and low and every stranger on the street with a 1995 MB E280 Masterpiece (W124), I managed to get BOTH the owner's manual for the car as well as that for the stereo. So now I know how it's supposed to work and how the correct CODE should be keyed in and entered sad:: rolleyes3 , but still ......... I don't have the correct code.

Cleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spend 4 hours in the car, most days, and in the massive traffic snarls here in KL, having the radio on certainly will be a big help, both to keep me awake and also entertained. Just waiting to try the code you offered.

Thank you.

Code

Try 64316 if it takes a 5 digit code or 4906 if it take a 4 digit code. Let me know how things work out.

Hi Cleeve, Happy New Year. Are you just back from long vacation? Hope you had a good break.

Thanks for responding with the code, but unfortunately, after I keyed them in and pressed the "Automatic" switch (see attached scanned pix of the instruction manual), the word C(blinking)ODE appeared again. I did not try a second time. This is a BE2140 and excepts a 4-digit code. I can send you other parts of the manual if you need to refer to anything. I can't find anything else useful as far as entering the code is concerned though.

Any other code that I could try?

Thanks and best rgds,
Phillip

Got it working

Hi Cleeve and Steve,

Just to let you guys know that I've got the radio working now. Although the code sent by Cleeve didn't work initially, I had read somewhere that I could try adding 2 to the number. So after waiting and waiting, I couldn't stand it, and this morning whilst stuck in traffic, I tried it ...... and it worked.

Thanks for all your help guys,
Phillip
