Why Does my 560SEL keep killing Becker Stereos????
My original Becker was dead when I bought the car, wouldn't turn on or anything, so I got a used 780 to replace the 754. I plugged it in, and it worked great, until I locked and unlocked the doors. After I did that, there were just dashes across the display. Damn! So I thought maybe it was because I didn't put one of the tabs on correctly on the rear of the unit. So I got yet ANOTHER Becker, installed it, and it worked perfectly, again, until I locked the doors. It now just shows dashes on the display. This is driving me crazy...what could be causing this??

I want to take the stereo to the Mercedes dealer to have them unlock it, but I just know it will lock itself again...

If the stereo isn't properly connected, or is unplugged when the car is locked, it will lock itself.

There is a separate connector on the back of the stereo IIRC for the alarm trigger.

You can get some more info from my web site on your problem.

Do you use the vanity mirror on Passenger side? If the contact switch is bad it will cause your Becker to code out.

Throw a damn aftermarket stereo in the thing....

For REAL !!! I can't wait till my birthday so I can replace that dammed old becker tape radio :laugh3:. I think an alpine dvd player would look really nice inside the cabin of a 560 SEL.

Quit plugging in the alarm harness.

Yes, thanks I know that now...unfortunately it's too late. :( Oh well, my new Pioneer should be here sometime today, and I just installed Infinity reference speakers all around. :)
