Basslink would probably be fine if you just want the added low end.

I listened to some of the ones that are ala carte tonight and they were just too much "boom" for me. I have to fine a store that carries the Basslink or something comparable to it to see what that sounds like.

they are to much boom because they have it hooked to a big amp. Some songs need a big amp though to get even a decent bass note, I am not talking huge but just substance.

What's "big?" Or is that too general a question?

I tend to disagree on the big amp thing.

Its more that they are trying to sell "junk" to people my age (25 and younger). Well, we want deeeeeep boom, and the way they get that is by turning the gain up all the way on everything, as it will shake the walls, and the majority of people just want it to rattle the fender off their car.

However there are people like you who do not want all the heavy heavy bass, and would just like a little low to compliment the highs. (I am this way) By turning down the gain, and actually adjusting the settings on the amp itself, followed by the headunit, you can get something that was really boomy in a display to just add nice the nice lows to your system.

Cool?

Next time you are in Northern California, I will show you my system. Untuned, it will give you a headache, and will rattle the poop out of everything.

Tuned, its am awesome combination of highs and lows that will "knock your socks off."

Yeah, I'd love to see (hear) it and to meet you, Justin. Perhaps I'll make it back to N. CA again before too long.

So, what would be a reasonable amount of power for driving a 10" sub?

Depends on the subwoofer.

My friend runs a system in his 350Z thats only 400 watts.... His system sounds amazing, even better than mine. He has 2 10 inch subwoofer in there too.

If you need a capacitor, you need a bigger alternator and better wiring....

None of the people that I know run a capacitor.... If your having problems with power spikes, you need a bigger alternator.

Capacitors are used for when your components are using more amps than what you have availible. Big mega bass systems have them, but you shouldnt need one.

I noticed some on display at Circuit City yesterday. The all seem to have a lot of bright flashing lights, LEDs, and other features to add to their eye appeal.

You have to dial stuff in for your tastes, I can't stand the boomy sound. I have a single 12" in my truck with a 1000x1 RMS amplifier. You'd never know unless I told you.

I noticed that my Alpine has a separate subwoofer control. Is that what you mean by "dialing stuff in," or are you talking about some other kind of adjustment?

I was really happy with my new HU and speakers . . . . for a few days.

Now, I want that subwoofer. This HU has 50 watts of power, which is more than any other one I've had, but it seems to be straining a little trying to drive those four Infinities. If I put in a sub and an amp, would that relieve the strain on the HU by taking the low frequencies onto the sub amp?
