'82 SD Becker Replacement

I am getting ready to replace my '82 SD's stock Becker with a aftermarket CD head unit. The Becker is missing some buttons and has the annoying habit of going to full volume on a whim, and then not responding to the volume controls.

My questions are:

1) Is there an adaptor harness that I can plug in to the factory harness? A search here said you could get one from crutchfield, but they say none is needed.

2) do I need to bypass the center fader? There is no factory amp in this car, correct?

3) do I need to replace the factory speakers? I have read that they are 8 ohm and will not work properly with a aftermarket head unit that is expecting 4 ohm speakers.

Thank you

There is no factory amp in the vehicle, you can connect the speakers straight to the head unit.

Thank you. Any body know if the stock speakers will work fine with an aftermarket head unit? I am thinking about the JVC KD-HDR20. It seems fairly clean and not to "blingy"

1. That MB harness looks slick, do that. I've never seen that until now. Anyone have a price on it?

2. That harness should bypass it since there are four outputs. No factory amp, that started around '88.

3. I would they're 25 years old, paper cone.

I wouldn't even use the aftermarket radio for power but that's me. It's limited in range and full of distortion, but anything will be better than the Becker you're accustomed to. Great quality small amplifiers are dirt cheap and sound fantastic.
