Thanks for Power antenna tips
After reading all these threads, I noticed that the
antenna on my 300 sd worked, but did not go through full range of motion. Would only partially retract, and would not fully extend. Repeatedly cleaned it and worked through full range of motion by hand.... After three or four cycles of cleaning it worked smoothly, but slowly. I used silicone spray to lubricate, continuing movement through full range of motion by hand. After several repeats of this treatment, antenna works smoothly and automatically through full range of motion. Thanks guys. Jones |

Winter lubrication
Winter lubrication.
Alcohol works well for ice, followed by a light application of ATF, WD40 or graphite, depending upon local climate.

WOW, I remember those little foil packages...that was a long time ago !! Periodic maintenance is a must to keep the mechanism cleaned and lubed...don't wait for it to fail. Another suggestion: A lot of bike shops and motorcycle shops sell chain lubes. They're very good at displacing water and repelling dirt. IIRC, the one I have is made by GUNK and comes in a white aerosol can...~$2.50.

simple solution to antenna problem
apply baking soda and rub with hands on an upward direction (to avoid breaking the mass element, then use a dry towel to wipe of ( or chamois synthethic or leather). Simple cheap and the most effective way to clean your antenna

I've gotten my 240TD from my dad about 3.5 years ago and the antenna was not working ever since (maybe for a decade and has been in 3/4 mast all this time) and reading this thread was too late for me otherwise I could fixed the problem and avoided this. Just last week I found out that someone had snapped my antenna to the base and this got me really MAD! Now it's hard to get a good signal everywhere!
A couple of questions: 1. Can I purchase the antenna rod without buying the whole assembly? 2. Will water seep in and reach the motor if the broken part is left uncovered? 3. Do I need to replace my motor since this is an electrical component or does it only need oiling? Thanks in anticipation and best regards! Joel
