W124 Radio Removal?
I am attempting to remove the original Becker radio from my 1990 300E (2.6L engine). Do I need to remove the entire center section by the gear shifter? Will I need a special tool to remove the radio? I purchased a new radio and I just wanted to find out what are the steps and any recommendations on removing the radio. Thanks for your help.

I keep a pair of those removal thingys in my toolbox and can have my radios out of the car in under a minute.

I just pulled the radio out of my '86 300E to access some wiring. The faceplate does not need to be removed. Once I took the ashtray assembly out the two plastic tabs beneath the radio are accessible. All I had to do was pull down on them and the radio slipped right out.
