Specifics on what CD Changer I Need

Hello All:

I've got a 99 E300 TD that evidently was originally purchased w/o a CD changer. It does have a fiber optic connection, but does not have a fiber optic amplifier, according to to an installer who looked at it. I really want to stay with the original equipment, and not change out the head unit.

I recently purchased what I thought was a correct CD changer, and I've obviously messed up. I bought the MB 3330. The fiber connection on the cd changer does not line up with the plug in the trunk. The little lights on the cable are further apart than the ones in the changer unit I purchased. A) does an adaptor exist to make these compatible, or B) if not, what specific MB unit (Alpine label or otherwise) will work for me? I can't afford another $125 guess.

The dealer was not able to tell me exactly what I needed. They couldn't tell me by the VIN whether mine was fiber or regular. I discovered it was fiber by my installer, but there are obviously different fiber CD changers out there for MB, and they don't seem to be interchangeable.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Andrew in North Carolina

my experience prompts me to suggest that you car would be happy with
D2B fiber compliant changers MC3198, MC3010 and one other but the
number escapes me.

3198 is slightly wider and has spring loaded front door

3010 is about 1/4" narrower (i think, to fit in glove boxes) and has
free sliding door. i've not been able to verify reports that it has
better anti-skip design

Many thanks Raymond. I had sort of narrowed it down to those two numbers. I might be able to get one off Ebay, but it hurts to pay $200 for a used unit....I wish MB had made other units compatible....

from one of your posts Ray

MC 3198 - (spring loaded sliding door)
10 3/8 x 6 1/2 x 2 3/4

MC 3010 - (reportedly better anti skip, non-spring sliding door)
9 7/8 x 6 1/4 x 2 3/8

MC 3110 - (non spring sliding door)
9 3/4 x 6 x 2 1/4
