Power Antenna

Has any one used this power antenna http://www.antennax.com/ - Search for Model number AX-05 for $49.95?

It states that it will work with a 300E.

Much cheaper than the OEM.

Mine functions mechanically but even after installing a new stereo, I am getting poor FM reception and almost no AM. The Car Stereo shop said I needed a new antenna.

Thanks,
Steve

Check your: Radio, Amplifier(if you have one) and antenna GROUNDS!

I'll bet one of them is in need of reattachment or repair!

Second thing I'd check is the "New" coax from the "New" radio gear to the
Antenna!(sounds like There is none presently.)

(Hint: Changing out the Tuner,Etc. will not degrade the Antenna's Performance)

Improper installation techniques can be/ (Attempted to be) blamed on a lot of "Other Things."

The car stereo shop "needs" a new technician.

The antenna unit shown is a Universal model and you'll have to do some rewiring if it's to work with the MB antenna controls.(If that's Possible?)

Thanks for your response.

I should have added that prior to the new stereo, I was getting worse reception, especially on AM frequency. I was hoping that the new stereo would correct the problem but the added benefit of an I-Pod hook-up was the main reason for the purchase. The old Becher cassette/radio is a classic, but I don't use cassettes anymore.

It is possible that the antenna wire is worn out. Don't you think that the most likely problem is the connection on the antenna end or the antenna itself? I am thinking that checking that connection would be the first thing to do.

Keep in mind that AM reception is typically not done with the same antenna as FM reception. Most AM radios have a ferrite bar antenna that is inside the actual unit itself.

Your stereo might be different. Check the manual and see.

You might be barking up the wrong antenna.
