560SL Dash speakers and Basslink trunk sub
Just a quick follow up to my DIY on the rear panel speakers DIY: 560SL Rear Side Panel Speaker Enclosures , I replaced my faulty Eclipse dash speakers with JL Audio 4" coaxials TR400CXI. I got them locally, great fit, only had to trim a little off the baskets. The tweeters easily clear the grilles too. Superb sound for the size, no distortion at even high volume.
My NEW in the box EBay Infinity Basslink sub arrived yesterday, and I spent the day running wires and putting it in. Since I have had a Basslink in my 380SE for years, I found this to be the perfect size and sound combination for the SL...well, at least the size I could tell before ordering. But I gotta say, I can feel the vibrations in the back of the seat testing in the garage...can't wait to roadtest. I found that the Basslink can be securily mounted using the feet supplied for vertical mounting, and 2 of the ones for horizontal mounting will 'hook' under the trunk rain gutter so it can't fall over. I needed to remove some of the 1/2" foam under it to get clearance for the trunklid support, but that's easy... and no holes to drill. Finally, I mounted my changer on the battery cover with 2 small bolts. I have an all Blaupunkt set-up now with the steering wheel 'Thummer' control. Old tech, I guess, but I have trunk space for those trips too. When $$ allows (for the subscription fees, I have 2 of these on hand), I'll be putting in my Sirius gear. Probably putting the reciever in the glovebox, as it doesn't look 'period' anywhere else...and I don't want thieves reaching in and stealing it either.

Nice. You really didn't have room in your trunk for one of those huge sub boxes anyhow, did you? Isn't your battery right there in the trunk on a 107? That would make the wiring pretty easy, I would think. Was that the case?

The SL battery is in a plastic compartment, right under the cover that the cd changer is mounted on. I ran power to the Basslink with a 10ga. wire directly from the pos. terminal, with an in-line 20amp fuse. I still had to run wires to the HU for the front speaker leads and the remote gain control. I tapped into the rear speaker wires under the 'Kinderseat' area.

Nice job. My GF has two SLs and the SL500 has a sub under that kinderseat, as you called it. I think that's where it is. There are two holes that look like ports on the front of it right behind the driver's seat.
