car stereo problems?

(moved from tech help. im still new here =P)

Hey everyone.

so recently one of the many things that has malfunctioned on my car has been the stereo system.

when i bought the car all but 1 speaker was busted (no sound at all) and it has an aftermarket sony stereo head in it.

a couple of weeks ago i left my car out on the street in a sketchy area so i took the faceplate of the stereo in the house and the next morning when i went to plug the faceplate it, it was not working at all. the radio has power and everything lights up but none (i mean NONE) of the buttons work.

so im stuck with a useless stereo.

good news is i have a spare one out of an old volvo we used to have laying in my garage somewhere.

as far as i can recall its a pioneer with tape deck (perfect for ipod plug in) and a trunk 6 cd changer. im not positive if it will fit (cars still in the shop getting a few thousand $$$ put into it.) but if it does im wondering if that could possibly solve the speaker problems?

the only speaker that works is the passenger door speaker. all the other ones are completely dead. no buzzing or anything. when i bought the car the previous owner claimed it was working the week before. so could it be a connection issue or the head unit going bad?

also does anyone know anything about DIN numbers??
