I find that, in many of the today's passenger cars, the rear speakers are closer to the driver's ears than front speakers as seen in the attached picture (e.g. 2010 Mercedes C300 with 8 speakers).

Isn't it a psychoacoustic nonsense?

They design the car audio system so that the sound stage is in front of the driver, not at the rear. However, the signal from the rear speaker reaches the driver's ears earlier than the signal from the front speakers.
