Most forgiving compnent?
What's the most forgiving component in a car stereo installation? My guess would be in the subwoofer and/or sub amp. I reasoning goes like this: The HU produces the initial signal, so it's very critical. The tweeters and midrange speakers produce the higher frequencies and are more directional, so I concluded that the sub and its amp would be the most forgiving part of the system if one had to scrimp somewhere along the line.
Does this sound reasonable to you? What are your opinions?

Yup, that sounds reasonable... if the HU stinks then everything will sound bad connected to it no matter the quality. When you look at an audio system, the speaker is producing the most distortion... no matter the quality again. So it all starts with a good source and goes from there.
Having said that, don't skimp too much on the sub because you'll end up with something that just pounds and sounds muddy. Go for quality not quantity... a single 10" or so in a sealed box, with a decent amp will give the bass a nice "tight" sound. |

I have been leaning towards the Infinity Basslink II. So far the only thing stopping me is money, or the lack thereof.

Meh... I'm not sure what they go for, but they're not thought of too highly. Unless the customer doesn't know how to wire up their own system, which I doubt is your problem.

I'm all for keeping things simple. I already have Infinity speakers elsewhere in the car and like those.

Infinity is pretty much low/mid-fi in terms of SQ, so if you want to keep things simple... then the basslink is as simple as it gets.
