MP3 Player instead of CD Changer

Hello,
I dont know if this is an obvious question or not but is there a simple way to remove the factory cd changer and replace it with an MP3 player that can still be controlled by the factory car stereo? In other words the factory car stereo would not know that anything really changed.

I have a 1996 E320 with factory stereo and cd changer.

One other question - the factory stereo works great other than a run - away - volume control. Once I got into the car, was driving in traffic and decided to listen to some music at a red light with my windows down. My wife mostly drives this car so its mostly her music. I turn it on and I think the cd for ABBA started playing. I go to turn it down and instead it turns up not matter which direction I turned the volume dial. The next thing I know I am listening to Dancing Queen at full volume. It took me awhile to figure out to just shut the radio off to get it to stop. Since then if you are really careful with the volume control you can get it not to run away on you.

Is there a fix for this? Possibly without taking the radio out? My wife does not want the radio taken out since I have a history of taking things apart and not always back together perfectly.

This is a great site I have been using for many years. Thanks for your help in advance, any ideas would be appreciated.

I know I've read something about this somewhere on this forum. I would like to know, too. In my case there is a Becker stereo with the factory CD changer in a 2000 SL500. How hard is it to disconnect the CD changer and attach and I Pod? What kind of control would that allow you via the head unit?

I havent found anything yet either. I emaled becker, they said they could hook up an aux in in the radio for $175. This isnt worth it to me as the radio still will not control the ipod or whatever you use. The best option seems to be pulling the head unit and cd changer and install a reciever will built in amp and hook the speaker wires directly to it, supposedly they are all there behind the read unit. I think they sell stereo recievers with usb, sd card even wi fi and blue tooth for under $200. Still more than I can spend right now so thankfully the existing system mostly works for now.

Actually, I think maybe HitmanX or Justin Iwrock might have posted something about this somewhere. I'll look when I have more time. Also, GBenz might know. He is pretty knowledgeable about car audio stuff.

I have the second one, and it's great. I got a 16 gig jumpdrive off ebay, and all of my songs are on it with room to spare. Hardly listen to the radio anymore.

Don't know. I'll have to look when I have a chance. Not sure I'd want to spend that much on it, though. I was looking more for just the "$30-sumthin-for-cable-type" of solution.

As for the volume control, it sounds like the innards may be dirty.
