When your Becker spits out the tape, you...?

Vehicle: 1987 300SDL
Miles : 192 900

Problem:

Since I got the car in 2007, I've had no problems with putting in a cheap tape conversion thing for my iPod to play tunes. Recently on Wednesday 12-09-2009 it played well! Come the next morning on 12-10-2009, the Becker just didn't want to take in the tape anymore....for no adequately explored reason...

I tried removing the fuse, attempting to clean the inside (don't know what to clean), and even FORCING the tape to stay...but now what happens is

-Takes in the tape
-Waits 2 seconds
-Spits it back out

Anybody had / have a similar problem or SOLUTION(S)?

Try to clean the capstan shaft, that's the rubber roller that feeds the tape.
Some companies make a cassette that will do that.

I have the same set up with my C36 and this happened to me this morning. The cassette kept on switching (auto reverse?) then it'll eject on its own.

Not sure where you're located but I think it happened because of the cold (I'm in Chicago) because when I left work (indoor parking) the cassette was fine and didn't eject anymore.

Cassette Problem

Just for everyones info. The radios that have cass decks in them were designed for a certain amount of useage before service would be required. With the onset of the IPod and the cassette adaptors, Cass decks are running longer than normal useage and therefore the motors are dying faster than normal. When the motor (main one) goes bad the only thing the deck will do is load and eject. We can service your Mercedes units (all years and models) so if you would like to get it serviced please contact me directly. Thank you and have a Happy New Year.

Solution

My Becker Europa deck used to do that. I took the deck out, took the cover off, and looked at the solder joints on the PCB (printed circuit board). A few of them looked scorched. I resoldered them (with new solder of course) and then put the radio back in the car. Fixed the problem. Also fixed a volume issue I had. Hope this helps!!
