The Becker Mexico (model 485) in my 1980 300D developed a high volume squeal after I hit a bump in the road.
I am planning to install a new (probably Sony) radio, disconnect the front speaker wires from the fader, and run those speakers only. I rarely, if ever use the radio and my wife likes to listen to the Sirius satellite when she drives to the store. Our 70+ year old ears don't need high quality sound. Probably can't hear it anyway. I have one question: How do I get the antenna to go up and down when I turn on the new radio? Richard |

I would love to know how to remove the factory bracket. I"ve put in an aftermarket alpine, but it doesn't 'catch' the factory bracket, so it remains loose. I cant find any screws or tabs that are holding the factory bracket in place.
Any tips? |

I got one, wonder if I rewired my w140 speaker wire to monster size wire.Would I gget even better sound. And when speakers or amp fails, using a more powerful amp, install would be a breeze. Az car makers use the cheapest wire they can find for their cars

I have a 1995 E320 where the radio is having bad hiccups. I already paid $100 long time ago to have the volume control (common problem) fixed. I don't want to sink any more money for repairs. What is the closest radio I could buy that is plug and play? I want to fiddle as little as possible with the install.

It depends if you have the upgraded sound system option in the car. If you dont, all you need is a adapter harness that you splice in. If you have the active base sound system, then you have to find the amp and bypass it or run new leads to the front door speakers and install a cross over. I ended up install a set of Focal speakers with the tweeter on the dash and the woofers in the door. It is not as easy as it seems if you have the active base system. The amp in the car needs line level signal or you blow it out.

1986 420 SEL factory radio question
edit: i found that these radios are unique in that they do need a special tool to be reset under certain circumstances. Becker and some dealers have the tool.
changed the car battery and now the radio is flashing four dashes across the display like it wants a code. dealer says there is no code for that car's factory radio and it may possibly need to be "reprogrammed" at the dealer.....also, the prev owner has what looks like a radio code in the owner's manual but when i try to enter the numbers nothing happens, as in numbers won't enter. any ideas? thanks g
