Anyone ever refurbish/fix your Becker Grand Prix?

I have one installed in my 300TDT. I was wondering if it can be pulled and resoder some of the pins to see if it can be refurbished. Some buttons don't work, and the LCD display is not displaying correctly. The speakers also go in and out of "stereo" and i suspect its the head unit and not the speakers. I figure if i can get the buttons working again and the speaker outputs then It would be worth it. Any ideas?

Just find a later unit and replace your 612. 1480 is the best drop in available.

Any idea where / how to find said unit? Or even just a functioning '91 Becker unit?

TIA!

It is from 1990 only, the 1480. 1432 has the separate tuner box in the trunk that is a PITA to install that started in 1991. The 1480 is the best drop in, i.e. no wiring changes.

Unless you are trying to stay 100% stock or something, I would just upgrade the unit away from Becker. Eclipse makes some nice HUs that are plain as does Blaupunkt.

understood

was trying to lean away from aftermarket, as I'd done that to my '90 and the install was involved (and took away the OE alarm car alarm as it broke the circuit).

but if all else fails, yep - that'll be the route

tx again

I understand, some simply do not want aftermarket. Just at some point the cost to repair the Becker along with its limited ability is just not there.

I would like to have the 1432 in my 560 modified for the Aux In from Becker, someday I will mail in my spare HU.

I plan on replacing the capacitors in the amps for my 1432 sometime this summer. Hopefully it improves the bass a little bit.
