Factory Radio gives no sound

The radio head unit in my E320 Cab does not give out any sound, not even a crackle. It turns on and will surf the channels but nothing comes out. It has a tape player and a 6 disc cd changer in the trunk connected to it.

so whats going on here?

Sounds like the amplifier, hope that's it's just a fuse. does the power antenna go up when you turn on the radio?

Sound Problem

Hi TheDon,

You may have the phone module bad if it is present in the trunk area. Otherwise the amplifier is most likely the problem. Let me know if you have a phone module.

Phone Issue

A test that can be done is to bypass the phone modules fiberoptic cables. To do this you would need a fiberoptic coupler for the cable. I have them in stock. Let me know if you want more help.

I don't believe the 94 uses fiber optics or at least my 94 E320 Cab doesn't.
All hard wired included the trunk mounted changer.

The phone mute circuit operates to ground, so if you pull the radio and clip the yellow/black wire on pin A3, it should permanently disable the mute function.

and is this a common problem with phone enabled cars?

next question, how to remove radio

update 1:29 pm

weird thing just happened I went to the cabrio and was looking at how to remove the head unit and turned the car on to play with the radio and I got sound. It works and works very well but I think the volume control is having issues. Is the radio supposed to fade out and fade in when you change stations?
