Becker question
I see Becker has a model Mexico 7948 which is a retro look faceplate. I have only seen it on a U.K. web site. Is it only available in the U.K? If so, can a radio from over there work here?
thanks Fred

Don't know about that specific model. About the only US dealer of non-US approved Beckers is Southwest Stereo (www.swstereo.com). BTW, the 788x's are limited to stock on hand as far as I know.
The main issues are that Europe uses a 9Hz frequency spacing on AM and US uses 10Hz so the digital tuner will not tune all AM stations on their exact frequency. I bought a Becker 7882 knowing that but have not been disappointed. Turns out I get good quality (for AM) on stations even if its 1-2Hz off. But I'm in a major metro area (LA) so the signals are strong. The second 'issue' is that there's some sort of free traffic reporting system in Europe that isn't available in the US called TP or traffic programming. All Euro radios have the capability but it won't work here. Good luck. |
