Boss Audio low profile sub in w124?
 

Has anyone tried to fit one of the Boss Audio low profile powered subs in a w124? Particularly under a power seat? I haven't yet tried taking my seats out so I dont know how much space there is under there.

Both of them are only about 3" thick. If no one has tried yet I'll make a mockup and see if I can get them under a seat.

The 8" did not fit under the seats in my W126. I doubt it'll fit in yours unless there were significant changes to the seats in the 124. I put it in the storage nets and velcrod the top until I find a better solution.

Thanks. I ordered the 8". I was thinking of putting it under the passenger side dash, but that mght make some rattles. There really doesn't seem to be a good spot anywhere.

Under the passenger seat or backseat perhaps?

I know that one of these will probably fit in a W123...I've been looking to do this for a while now.

It definitley doesnt fit well in the passenger cabin. If the med kit depression wasn't rounded it would fit under there. Well, I can get it
to fit under the passenger dash but I'm concered about safety in a crash. I'm not sure about my car since it has passenger side SRS, but a common injury for passengers is broken femurs from sliding low.

So I can take the guts out out and make a new enclosure that does fit under the med kit cover, which defeats the point of this product, or put it in the trunk and remove the rear speakers for the port. I don't like ugly jobs, so if I do decide to cut a hole under the med kit I'll put the largest passive radiator that fits.

hey, did you guys ever figure out an under seat subwoofer? i'm currently shopping for one for my 85 w123, i think the kenwood ksc-sw11 at 11” x 7.5” x 2.75” is the smallest one available, i might try it.

I was debating doing this too. Here is the smallest one I could find.

Under the seats is way too tight I think, maybe if you have manual seats. My plan was always under the med kit, possibly trimming the shelf or just let it stick up a bit.

I installed a 300W amp and decided to skip the subwoofer as the amp drives my four 5.25" speakers well enough for me.

it looks like the kenwoods i mentioned are smaller,

i do have manual seats in my w123,

i have 2 4" speakers in the front and 2 6" speakers in the rear, would a better amp be good enough? i thought the speakers were just too small for a fuller range, i'm not looking for higher volume.

and where do you fit an amp?

Sorry didn't see your reply. Yes the kenwood is smaller, missed that. I was referencing a 124 maybe it will fit in a 123.

Well it depends on your head unit to some extent and the rating of your speakers. Mine are rated for 50W RMS but my headunit was only putting out 14W RMS.

My goal was mainly to improve the bass, but I did notice an increased clarity across the board and am hearing aspects of songs I had missed before. Not a night and day difference but an improvement. Bass is much improved with the amp.

Right now it's loosely sitting in the glove box with the liner removed. I'm hoping I can fit it in there someplace and get the liner in over it, the amp is quite small. If not I will drill some holes in my liner and just let it sit in the glovebox. I didn't run a dedicated power line just hooked it to the radio power, one of the comments mentions this will be okay since the output is so small. It seems fine so far.

Anyways I'm not an audio expert in fact quite the opposite! Better get a second opinion on this one but good luck. :P

aha, interesting.

in my previous car, the bass drum on songs sounded crisp and clear, almost like an actual bass drum. on my 300D, it sounds muffled.

i called crutchfield, they recommend an amp.
my radio puts out around 20 watts per channel, 4 channels.
my front speakers can handle about 45 watts,
the rear speakers can handle about 75 watts.
so a 50 watt x 4 channel amp should help and shouldn't blow out.

i just wonder if that'll still be good enough considering the front speakers are only 4" in diameter...

anyone else on here have experience with this? there must be someone out there who has tried an amp and under seat subwoofer!

ps there's a small 50 watt x 4 channel amp that's smaller than the kenwood under seat subwoofer...
