installing new radio
 

i have a couple of questions on replacing my radio.
there is what looks like a power supply in the back with a 4-5 pin plug. there are only 2 pairs of wires L and R eventhough there are 4 speakers and another wire which could be a antenna wire. can someone give me detailed instructions on how to rewire the new stereo.

The wire code is on the power connector

Red = contant 12v
black/yell = switched 12v
gray = illumination 12v
Brown= ground

1/4" spade Blue+power antenna +12v

the speaker plugs (2 conductor) go to the fader control input
you have to bypass the fader in order to utilize the full power of your head unit. You should be able to find the two front speaker wires behind the radio, the rear wires are going to be found at the fader control. I usually use the ground wires from the plugs at the back of the radio and run tthe two positives down to the fader and locate the rear + wires and attach to the there.

There is a seperate connector for the power antenna and amplifier turn on lead and this a 1/4 inch spade connector off the back of the radio.

I know that this is an older posting, but it is the closest I can find to my dilema!

I have just installed a new head unit (not Becker) in my '81 300tdt. All is well, wioth figutring out the wiring(with help from Scott-thanks!) now only ONE THING REMAINS!!!

Why does the head unit NOT illuminate at all when the radio is not powered up? Sometimes when very bright becuase sun come in sunroof I can see a very faint clock... This head unit is supposed to (based on the instructions it came with) light up whenever the car is "on".

Pleae help. I am sick of fumbling in the dark to try to turn on the stereo and NOT having a working clock.

hey dieseldaddy,
what type of radio is it that you have installed in your MB. most new radios dont have the audio illumination wire. most have a power wire that is always on, one that is on only when the key is in the ACC position one ground and one antenna wire. you simple insulate and keep out of the way the new radio wire. the display you see in the glare of the sun is 7 segment display in the off positions usually the sun has the opposite effect you described. if you have any questions feel free to email me.
