New Head Unit-need info
I have been working on replacing the factory 1480 becker with a blauplunkt Laguna cd36, come to find out that after removal of the fader and running new wires, the darn thing is no good. unplug the speaker s from the radio and plug it back up and it works fine good sound and after maybe 30 min. the sound shuts down. any way I am tired of playing with this unit. I would like to replace with a new system. Question, what make can I get that is going to be a very neat install with good sound? this is for a 1990 420 sel (126) Thanks for any help

Kinda like getting an opinion on "what brand of oil to use"?
Seriously, there are SO MANY options as head units go, that's it's difficult to direct you to the right choice. Pretty much the standard install interface is DIN, so there are hundreds of units to choose from for your application. That said, you can limit your choices by figuring out what neat options you would like to take advantage of...HD radio, satellite-ready, iPod interface, mp3 compatible, etc. I bought this Blau unit a few years ago for $64. It was cheap, could read mp3 files on a CD, allowed an "aux" input, and best of all, the display backlighting could be configured to match the dash lighting...I set it for "amber" or course...

Is that unit a 'plug and play'? Blau has a unit that plugs right into our wiring, no slicing, no dicing no splicing!!
