I have a dead original power antenna. Vehicle is a 1996 E300. There is a three wire plug running into it. The wire colors are: 1. Blue 2. Brown 3. Red with blue line and lt. purple dashes. From a search it appears that the Blue is +12v to make the antenna go up and down, The Brown is ground, and the Red with blue stripe and lt. purple dashes is +12v.
I welded up the body hole ( it was rusting anyway) and plan on a simple ridgid mast antenna fastened up in the trunk. I believe that I can simply attatch the brown to the outer cable which comes with the new mast antenna and the red to the inner of the cable. The blue I simply do not use. To you audio guys, Does this sound like the way to wire it in.
Note; The radio actually gets signal with no antenna, and boats mount their antenna's this same kind of way.
