Okay, so here's the question. I've got one and maybe two working Becker 612 radios. They were originally installed in a 300SD.
My 1982 240D has a Becker Europa Cassette radio in it; it's got an analog tuning rotor instead of digital tuning if that helps to identify it. Sorry, I don't have the model number off the back.
What I would like to do is remove the Europa two-knob radio and replace it with one of my Becker 612 models. I like the "Retro" effect of the analog tuning dial, but I've been living with it for a year and it's getting a little old never being able to get a station to tune in precisely. I'm to the point that being able to numerically select a station is worth more to me than the old-timey look.
My question is this: are the plugs identical or will I have to cut and splice? I don't want to take the 240 dash apart (ancient plastic, you know how it goes) for no good reason - and if the 612 won't plug directly into whatever plugs the 240 has back in there, I will put this project off until I have the energy to properly rewire.
So... does a 240D that currently has a Becker Europa Cassette installed have the same plugs that are required to connect power, antenna, and speakers to a Becker 612 and leave everything else exactly as it is?
