satellite radio in 2006 cl55amg
the previous owner/lessee ordered this car in 2005. one of the options selected was satellite radio[which i think was installed by the dealer? or mbusa upon the car's landing in the usa?].
but the vehicle has no ugly antenna, which i identify with satellite radio. was it possible that satellite radio could be operated without one of those ugly antennas? for this 2006 model year 215 chassis? all ears. thnx |

My 2006 CLS500 shows Sirius as an option, too, but the adapter that is required to enable it to be connected is no longer available. I ordered the radio from the Mercedes dealer, but they could not find the adapter. I don't know if the CL requires the same adapter or not.
I now have an Sirius S50 in my glove box, plugged into the miniphone jack in there. Not a very elegant solution, but it's better than nothing.

The 215 chassis has the SAT antenna mounted to the underside of the decklid, out of sight.
What happens when you press the SAT button on the head unit? If the display says' "No Satellite Radio" it means that the SAT kit was never installed. The option you refer to is most likely for the pre-wiring package. If the SAT kit is installed, your ESN will be displayed as well as the phone number to contact Sirius/XM. |

I believe my car has the wiring harness for satellite, but not the electronics. SAT comes up as an option on the screen, but that's all.

oh, yes, this cl55amg has the satellite radio installed. when toggling sat, it gives me the # and a phone number to call to enable it i suppose.
but how is it that the 215 series cars don't have to use one of those ugly external antennas that seemingly infest all the other benzes? and now that i have learned that the antenna can function within the trunk, i am thinking of fitting a satellite radio kit to the head unit for my cl500. my dealer tells me that a few of these kits are still available. worth adding? |

The 215 deck-lid is either fiberglass or aluminum (I don't remember which), not steel.

surely this wasn't[isn't] the only benz with a transparent antenna location.
or is it? |
