what can I do to my 300E?
I only drive it 8 miles a day, so I'm not lookng to spead loads of $$$ on it. I recently put in a Pioneer CD player, and I'm looking ot upgrade the speakers. I've noticed the standard for the rear is 5 1/4" - Do I have to replace them with that size or can I go bigger? Is this a hard do it yourself type job, or I'm I looking at prof. help? Wire's should be standard right? Anyone had any similar experience with the speakers? Thanks.

You can not go bigger in rear speakers unless you get into modifications. Stick with the stock size it is adequate for normal listening. Get a pair of good speakers. They are also a bit difficult to install in the original plastic housings but it can be done. Up front you will have to search a bit more to find speakers. You need around 4.5 inchers. I have managed to fit MB Quarts 5 inch but they had to be modified.

Hey i have the same car, when my dad bought it the first thing he did was get a new system which included having someone blow tourch 2 holes in the back for bigger speakers, now that i have the car i put full around Infinity Kappas (the best) in, which sound like i have subs.
So if your not looking to spend a lot of money do go that way, but just put 2 infinitys in the back and you will be very happy with the results. Good Luck |

When you put the pioneer cd in, did you happen to wire past the fader control in the center console? If you didn't, then you might want to do so, so you can get full power out of your new deck for your new speakers. I sell a direct drop in speaker ( perfect for the do it yourselfer) they are specifically made for the 124 mbz so they mount just like the factory speakers ( no screws) they just snap into the dash or the rear and they even have the factory wire connector on them. They are two way, top notch quality, made in germany by a company called rainbow. If you are interested let me know.

Bill if yourcars fader in the cosole still works then you are only using 2X50 watts instead of 4X50 watts of power. In order to get full power you have to remove the fader for the wiring and wire all 4 speakers directly to the new radio.
Here is a pic of the speakers that I sell for the 124 car and they will work both front and rear with no mods. The speakers even have the correct connectors to pug dirtly into the stock harness. The price on thspeakers is $120.00 per pair + s&h. Scott@lajollaaudio
