W124 speakers (front)

Rainbow from Germany are a good choice and a direct fit.

speakers

i am really happy with my infinity reference speakers in my 190E
i'm not sure what size the fronts are on the 124 (probobly 5.25")
as for the rears i would go with 6.5", 6x9's will give you more bass but if you are planning to install a sub sooner or later don't get the 6x9's since the bass from those and the sub will play at a delay and screw up your sound quality
i know this from experiance and i'm just warning you
Tom

MB Quarts are good speakers, i'm planning when i save up some money to get those 3-way components for the front of my car
can u tell me how are those titanium tweeters, do they create that high pitch noise that hurts your ears?

Thumbs up

Good choice. The tweeters are incredible I like high ends so no issues with too much. Besides you control the EQ or treble.........

As someone who was in Car Audio for almost 30 years I would say there is no such thing as a best speaker. Speakers are an individually analyzed item and different people like the different characteristics of different speakers. I personally like a somewhat muted high end whereas others prefer a brighter high end. Not all speakers sound the same and it is those differences that appeal to different ears. Isn't that the reason we live in America so we can be different......My 2 cents.........

different type question..... does anyone know the crappy brand of speaker that was put in the late 80's w124's.

I can't believe people who bought these cars new and paid what they did, tolerated this system.

The interior speakers were 4x6 from factory (if I remember correctly). I replaced them with some pioneer 4x6 in the rear, and a good set of tweeters in the front. The 6x9's give good bass, but there is going to be a problem cutting the rear deck and finding suitable speaker covers.

BTW: When I removed my old speakers I read the back, and they were 15 measley watts!!

How about direct replacement door speakers for the 300TE wagon (1989/w124 body).

Now that I bought a new Alpine HU for my daughter's wagon the OEM speakers sound pretty crappy.
