I have a 95 Merceeds E220 with a "Mercedes Benz Special" Radio/tape
unit (It is a becker 2210). According to the user manual the unit has CD controls and there is a cd button on the head unit. I have been searching for CD cable in the trunk, and
have located a cable, which I am not 100% certain if it is the CD cable.
The cable is pretty thick and has a large conector at the end of it. The
shell connector itdelf is a multi-pin configuration, with three
horizontal rows, each row has 11 recessed holes and some of the holes
have pins ( crosses in the crude drawing below ):

You found the CD cable!! Its designed for a factory Alpine CD player. However most good stereo shops can come up with an aftermarket unit that will work with an adaptor (Crutchfields for instance).

for an aftermarket converter cable & an Alpine ( The only choice, I beleive ) changer.

The cable that I located earlier on, is, to
my disappointment, not the CD cable. It is
actually plugged into a white plastic box -
the box itself is not connected to anything else. When I disconnect the cable, the alarm
does NOT work. It seems that the white box
acts like a " junction box" for the alarm system.
I was under the impression that all post 93
MBs come with CD cable pre-installed. It seems that I was wrong. Any ideas?

On all 1994 & later M.B. sold in No. America the cable should be in the trunk!! On some models on the right, and others the left.
Yes the dealer installed model is a Alpine!

To make a long story short, I had a real
tough time finding my '94 E320 CD changer
cable. I bought a MB changer from MB parts
and I had to get MB service to tell me it
is in the right hand side under the cover
near the wheel well.
It is not the left side cable for the
celluar phone. (The service foreman was
really mad that parts sold the changer w/o installation. I did not want to pay $200
installation for a CD ready car.)
BTW for the extra $100 or so, I think
its better to get the MB one to avoid
the hassle of getting the wrong adaptor.

I am looking at installing an Alpine CD player from an early C class car into a 1992 500E.
I have recently repaired a bad connection in the stereo connection so i am familier with the set up and and am wondering what I need to have to install this used unit. I know that a mounting isolation bracket, the cd player itself, and the needed bolts are needed. What does the wiring harness need to be? Is it a cable from the player to the receiver? Does it take a combination of cables or is it able to be purchased as an assy? I know the later model cars come with it installed but I have seen no sign of it in this car? If it does have a cable would it be on the drivers side since the battery is where the unit mounts in the standard E class cars.
