Power antenna on 1992 300 TE 4matic

My OEM power antenna will go up but not down.

I took it apart, cleaned it, regreased it and reinstalled it.
Goes up fine but won't come down.

Is there a way to repair these as they are pricey to replace?

Thanks
Jim

Is it stuck in the up position? I mean, how can it go up if it never goes down. Just a little confused.

I first noticed the problem when the antenna stuck in the up postion
after I shut the car off one day.
I removed the antenna, took it apart, tested the motor (which was fine), cleaned and lubed the gears, and reinstalled it.
Then I turned on the radio and the antenna went up
I turned the radio off and the antenna stayed up

So I know the motor works but for some reason the signal to reverse the motor and pull down the cable isn't happening

Wha??

The last sentence of your post implies that you think the motor does not reverse and lower the antenna. How do you know that? Did you turn off the radio or the ignition and quickly go out back to listen and did not hear motor noise?

The common issue is worn teeth on the plastic tail out of the antenna mast. The antenna does not lower even though the motor is clearly working (i.e., you can hear it).

Remove the mast and look at the condition of those teeth. After you see the worn teeth, replace the mast.

Good point on the motor.
I'll get someone to listen to the motor while I turn the radio on and off to see if it is running.
Thank you

Jim
