Had to remove the battery on my 83/300CDT to clean the front drains last weekend.
After replacing the battery the after market Sony radio/CD player did not work.(Radio is the digital type installed by the previous owner).
Took a voltage reading at radio with key in the ACC position and got 12.6v .
Fuses are OK.
Looks like the radio is gone.
Does anyone have an idea of what could of happened?
I have had the battery on this car disconnected before with no problems, over the years I have done things similar to this (replacing, charging, jumping, radio installation, etc.) with no issues.
Any advice for next time would be appreciated.

Thanks

There should be 2 power wires on the rear of the radio. One holds the memory while the other turns the power off with the key.
Power is usually red with a stripe
Keyed power is usually black with yellow stripe.
Ground is brown.

Are you sure there isn't an inline fuse behind the Sony head unit? Lots of installers will tie up the bundle of wiring with Tie-wraps, but it covers an inline fuse holder that may contain a fuse you never knew about until it blew. I'd cut off the tie-wrap and check.

I once blew a 25 amp fuse in my '91 Volvo, replaced it with a 15 amp fuse, which never blew again until I sold the car. Point of which is, why did the fuse blow the first time? Surge?

I have pulled the whole thing out and there was no fuse on the red(hot) supply.
The installation was by the car's previous owner and was not a very clean job.
the old unit is from 1994, maybe it was just it's time to go.
I will be replacing the radio this weekend with a new unit.

Thanks for the help.
