How do i remove the radio on my W126?
it recently died and i dont know why
i checked the fuses and they look ok
ne suggestions
P.S. ne1 know how to route wire from the center console to the trunk?

I had replced mine a few months ago also. The side panel of the console is removed easily and a cable can be pushed through. I ran it near the seat under the carpet and then under the plastic peice at the door to the back were it was under the carpet again then under the rear seat. The seat back is removed by taking out three screws I think. There are holes behind the insulation which go through to the trunk. I mounted a cd changer there.

The radio had places to press which released the radio chasis. That was the easy part of the job.

Take out the ashtray and release it from the bottom.

There are two spring clips at the bottom of the radio towards the left and right sides. Push them up (might need a screwdriver to get leverage) and the radio will slide out. If you want to get it fixed go to www.beckerautosound.com. I thought that it would cost too much to repair mine for the old technology. I put in a new radio/tape deck and CD changer for about the same cost.

What type of AM/FM/CD replacement system will fit in the rather small space above the ashtray?

I have a 1979 240D and the Clarion AM/FM/Cassette is definitely shot..

The easiest, and laziest way to route the speaker wires through the console, and to the back, is to tap into the existing wires that are already under/infront of the console. (be sure to bypass the 'fader' control) It seems a bit like butchery, but it works for those not needing to buy 'monster cable' at $3/ft.

As far as the hole size...two months ago I was able to fit in an averaged sized "aiwa cdc-z01" stereo w/cd player with ease.

Crutchfield's website can tell what size radio will fit into any car. They are pretty good. Get an idea of what you want to do
