I can understand that a CD changer does live in a harsh environment (cold in the winter/hot in the summer), but I surely would have expected the Alpine unit in my 300E to last longer than 6 years for all that money!! Anyhow, the thing is taking ever so long to begin playing a disc, and there's staticy sound coming from the speakers when the disc is playing which I suspect is a dirty laser lens. Do any of you have any good methods of getting these things to function better? I really don't want to have to purchase another one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My suggestion would be to take the changer to a car audio dealer and have them professionally clean the lens and that should make it like new again, I have a friend with a cd player that skipped all the time and he had it cleaned, now it is like new again. I am sure that is the problem, all cd players get dirty after years of service. Should cost about 30 bucks but I am not sure on that, as it varies from shop to shop.
Hope this helps.

I did a lens cleaning myself on a cd changer. Just take a lens cleaner, take your changer in pieces to access the lense, clean it, let it dry, and hope you've got a brand new player
