I had a friend install a Clarion cd player in my 1991 190e and I think he wired it wrong. Everything works fine, but the memory for the presets doesnt stay. The model # for the original stereo is CM2190. Connected to this stereo was a harness with four wires a brown, green/yellow/black, grey, and one other wire. Can anyone tell me what these wires are? Also, i noticed that my glovebox light and shifter light arent working after the install, do any of the wires to the stereo have anything to do with this. I checked the fuse and it was ok.

The wire that maintains the memory is the red wire. It has power all of the time. There should be two power wires connected to your radio. 1 red constant power and 1 black (sometimes with a yellow stripe) for the switched power.

My shifter light stopped working too. All that happens is the light itself falls out of the holder. It probably works still!
With the glovebox light, the connector has a tendancy to fall off. I presume you removed the glovebox to get to the stereo back? Its a long shot, but maybe, just maybe! Brian ------------------ Brian Drought 1991 300CE http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~drought/ ICQ: 2180069 |

What does the blue wire coming from the car do?

When dealing with stereos, that blue wire goes to the power attenna to tell it to raise , or any external amplification you may have. It's just a very very low current 12V line.

Which wires? The blue one is attena power as above, and benzmac covered the others...
Blue = Antenna Red = Switched Power (normally) Yellow = Constant Power (for radio Memory etc ) Black = Ground Orange(I think) = Stereo Lighting when you turn your lights on (or off in the case of backlit systems) Pink = Telephone mute Its very early, and I may have got pink and orange mixed up. Of course you'll also have 4 sets of speaker wires or so, and an antenna wire. Hope this helps, Brian ------------------ Brian Drought 1991 300CE http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~drought/ ICQ: 2180069 |
