I'd like either inspect or replace the front speakers. It sounds like little pebbles are dancing around the cones at higher volumes. Anyone have any experience with this. Any speaker suggestions?

Phil

The noise you hear is dust. Take the cover off and carefully clean the speaker. If it doesn't work, it means that they ended their life.
Buy some good tweeters. The factory's one is a middle range and doesn't perform well at all...

The grills are super easy to take off. There is a strip of plastic on the center side of the grill which is about .5" x 6". Gently pry it off. Under that is one phlips head screw to remove.
Rockford Fosgate makes metric replacement speaker for this application. It's nothing special but is much better than stock. Just remember the save the plug harness off the old speakers.

The noise is probably dust as Adamou said, either clean it or replace it. Sometimes you'll need to replace it, as dust gets into the voicecoil underneath the tweeter (if coaxial), which the turns the ferrofluid into a sort of abrasive porrige which given time will kill the tweeter.

Removal is as John said, except there are 2 philips screws. (John, I think you're missing one!!). To remove the speakers is tricky... you need 6 hands and a lot of patience. I took the easy route... I removed everything from the area and jigsawed the old speakers out! Not recommended tho if you want to use the old mounted holes :-)

Good luck

Brian
